Storage & Moving Tips

  • Store the items you'll need most often in the front of the unit
  • When you store your belongings, leave a center aisle that you can walk down to access items that are in the back of the unit.
  • When storing furniture such as, tables and chairs, remove legs to save space.
  • Pack dishes and glassware carefully (preferably with bubble wrap) to prevent breaking during transportation and storing.
  • Hang clothes and other sensitive fabrics in wardrobe boxes.
  • Pad mirrors and paintings with extra cushioning.
  • Plan ahead. Start gathering plenty of boxes, cartons, packaging supplies, paper, bubble wrap, sealing, tape and other necessities before you move.
  • Tightly seal all boxes with packaging tape.
  • Wrap furniture corners and legs with protective wrap to prevent dings and scratches.
  • Label boxes on all sides so that you can identify your belongings when they are packed away.
  • Pack items inside dressers and other furniture so that no space is wasted in the unit.
  • Pack heavier items such as tools and books in smaller boxes to prevent the boxes from becoming too heavy and to keep them from bottoming out.
  • Clean and dry all appliances before storing.
  • Store heavier items below the lighter ones to prevent damage and unstable stacks.
  • Pack as much as you can in each box within reason. You want to minimize wasted space as much as possible.
